Friendly, knowledgeable local people are pleased to provide you with information and brochures which will allow you to get the most enjoyment out of your visit to Sandon and the area. Please stop at the Prospector's Pick or the Silversmith generating station. We are happy to help. Informative Walking Tour Maps of the historic site are available at the Prospector's Pick and the historic Silversmith Generating Station. They make great souvenirs also.
IDAHO PEAKEnjoy the scenic splendour of a 360 degree view of the beautiful Selkirk Mountains.See alpine flowers in their unspoiled natural beauty! From Sandon travel the 12 Km drive up a single lane, windy, bush road to the parking lot on the ridge. The road is well travelled and has a number of wide spots where passing is possible. The road is being maintained by the government however make sure that you have a good spare tire. From the parking lot, hike approximately 2 km to the peak. Allow about four hours for the round trip. Remember to use low gear when coming down thereby avoiding burning your brakes. A vehicle with high ground clearance is recommended, but cars have made the trip. The road is now snow free. ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE TOURSLooking for a different way to see the Sandon area and mine workings? ATV rentals with an experienced guide are available for half day and full day excursions. A packed lunch is complimentary on full day rentals. PARKING, RV PARKING AND CAMPING
Free daytime parking is available adjacent to the Prospector's Pick, the Sandon City Hall and the historic Silversmith generating station.R.V.s are welcome in Sandon for daytime and overnight stays. A suitable parking area adjacent to the historic City Hall is a safe and pleasant place to spend a night (or two) for only $10 nightly. Please note that there is no sani-dump facility in Sandon but public toilets are available. Numerous electrical plug ins are available for RVs and campers. Inquire at the Prospector's Pick. COACH TOURS
Bus tour groups are most welcome in Sandon. Ample parking is available and knowledgeable, experienced step-on guides are provided upon request. Catering for lunches or snacks can be arranged for groups of all sizes. An interesting package of all the above attractions can be arranged including complimentary items. We welcome your enquiries.
